METRO CWEST 50ish Talent Show

The most anticipated talent show of the year is underway and we are searching for talent acts!! It's that time of the year again. The annual talent show brought to you by the Women of CWEST and the Men of METRO is back to invigorate your Winter Quarter!
This year's METRO/CWEST talent show is Friday, February 18, 2011 at 7pm in Great Hall.

If you sing, dance, play an instrument, juggle, play the whistle through your teeth, climb walls, whatever!! We want YOU!

Auditions to perform in the talent show will be held on the following dates in TUC Cinema:
Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 7-9pm
Friday, January 21, 2011 from 2-5pm!

Reinventing Our Communities Workshop Series

The Hamilton County Planning Partnership is the leader in organizing the workshop series "Sustainable Hamilton County Reinventing Our Communities."


The workshop series is a multi-part event that provides factual data and leading research findings, encourages critical thinking, and promotes discussion and collaborative action to achieve sustainable development in Hamilton County.


Session I and Session II have already taken place, but Session III, "Fiscal Sustainability and Quality of Life of Our Communities," will be Friday Jan. 21 from 8am to 12:30pm in TUC Great Hall.

The Keynote Speaker will be Prof. Michael A. Pagano, Dean of the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs and Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Go here for information on Prof. Pagano and the other speakers who will be there.

AACRC Presents Annual Tribute to Martin Luther King - Jan 12th!

The University of Cincinnati African American Cultural and Resource Center(AACRC) pays tribute to the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a special program beginning at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 12, in MainStreet Cinema in Tangeman University Center (TUC). The event is free and open to the public.

UC President Gregory H. Williams will have opening remarks for the program, themed, “The Miseducation: There’s Still More Work to be Done.” 

The featured speaker is Tracie M. Hunter, the democratic candidate in the hotly contested Hamilton County race for juvenile court judge that is awaiting a ruling from the Ohio Supreme Court.

Eric Watford, program coordinator for the AACRC, says the program will explore inclusion as well as fairness in the local community and in society.

The event will also include a performance from UC’s AACRC Choir, which has performed around the country.

SHADES OF YOU GENERAL BODY MEETING WEDNESDAY JANUARY 5TH IN THE AACRC AT 5:30PM.

It will be directly after the BASE/Transitions program. At the General Body Meeting we will be announcing all of our programs for Winter Quarter so you can mark your calendars! 

We will also be officially starting Prom Dress Bizarre Volunteer Sign Ups as well as discuss the event in general so you all can inform your respective friends, family members, neighbors, churches, etc. We hope you all are just as excited as we are! Cincinnati Public Library Honors MLK - Jan 17th

This January, the Library will honor America’s greatest champion of racial justice, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with celebrations of art, music, stories, songs, and more! 

The Main Library’s Children’s Learning Center invites children to Lift Up Your Voice: A Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 17, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. 

Hear “Martin’s Dream” and sing freedom songs with Deondra (Kamau) Means from ArtReach, a division of the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. Then, build a Community Canvas with Happen, Inc. Enjoy crafts and other activities, too!

Free Screening of Garbage Dreams - Tonight!

From UC Sustainability:

Following the Student Sustainability Coalition meeting in the Catskeller at 6PM tonight, the SSC is hosting a free screening of the film Garbage Dreams in TUC Cinema.

Garbage Dreams follows three teenage boys born into the trash trade and growing up in the world's largest garbage village, on the outskirts of Cairo. It is the home to 60,000 Zaballeen, which is Arabic for "garbage people." Far ahead of any modern "Green" initiatives, the Zaballeen survive by recycling 80 percent of the garbage they collect. When their community is suddenly faced with the globalization of its trade, each of the teenage boys is forced to make choices that will impact his future and the survival of his community.

The film has won several awards, including the 2009 REEL Current Award given by Al Gore for outstanding insight into a contemporary global issue.
