Happy Earth Week 2011! UC has lots of events scheduled over the next couple weeks to celebrate the 41st Earth Day. Please see the abbreviated list of upcoming events below or download the Spring quarter calendar here. I hope to see you all at the annual Bike Parade this Friday at 12:00pm.

2:00pm-4:00pm UC Unplugged Day Sigma Sigma Commons tie-dye station, games, ask your professors to teach outside or turn off the lights and projector
5:30pm workshop series: Container Gardening Bike Kitchen learn how to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers in your apartment or res hall room
6:00pm community ride: Northside depart from Bike Kitchen check out a Bearcat Bike Share bike or bring your own and join us for this informal ride to Northside, including free dinner

10:00am-5:00pm Earth Day Festival McMicken Commons live music, games, activities, food, info. fair, and more
12:00pm Earth Day Bike Parade MainStreet grab a Bearcat Bike Share bike or bring your own wheels or walking shoes and join this annual tradition (meet at University Pavilion upper plaza and ride will end at the Bike Kitchen with an open house)

5:00pm workshop series: Bike Safety + Urban Riding Catskeller learn the basics of bike safety and riding in the city
7:00pm film series: Burning in the Sun MainStreet Cinema documentary about renewable energy production and entrepreneurship in rural Africa

5:00pm tour: UC Central Utilities 3000 Glendora Avenue join us for this informative and fascinating tour of both the West and East Central Utility Plants

12:00pm lecture series: Greta Gaard - Who's Afraid of Environmental Feminism? French West 4616 What happened to ecofeminism and what have we lost?

3:00pm lecture series: Rye Barcott - It Happened on the Way to War + booksigning DAAP 4400 In 2000, Rye Barcott spent part of the summer living in ten-by-ten-foot shacks in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya while still a student and just about to enter the Marines. He went on to co-found Carolina for Kibera and work to bring social justice, sustainable development, and understanding through his work and writing.
