I wanted to share an exciting opportunity with you.
Please contact me if you are interested in participating or if you know of
someone who may be.
On Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10am,we are planning on
taking a group of students downtown to visit Findlay Market. We will have
someone available to discuss the history of Findlay Market and introduce our
group to the local farmers that sell their produce. The purpose of the trip
is learn more about sustainability and the positive impact of buying local.
If you are not familiar with Findlay Market it is Ohio’s
oldest continuously operated public market. You can find more information
on their website: http://www.findlaymarket.org/.
We made a arrangements for a group carpool to meet at the
CRC circle at 9:30am on Saturday, Nov. 5th. We have
some drivers lined up, if you are interested in volunteering to be a driver as
well, please let me know.
If you have your own transportation and prefer
to meet down at the market we will be at the open air farmer’s market area at
10am.
Another alternative from
transportation is take the Metro bus. Route 78 that departs from
Jefferson & University is a quick 7 minute trip for only $0.85.
Please visit the Metro website for more information: http://www.sorta.com/.
The UC student group is meeting in the open air Farmer’s
Market area or letter D on this map: http://www.findlaymarket.org/merchants/.
On Wednesday, Nov. 30 we will have a special event in
MarketPointe. All of our entrees will feature items purchased from
Findlay Market. We are also inviting farmers and representatives from the
market to come to campus to meet students at the event.
Please RSVP to Katy Higbee at katy.higbee@uc.edu so we can get an
idea of how many people to expect. Please include your method of
transportation as well so we can plan for the carpool.
