Monday, January 9: PACES Meeting, 12pm, TUC 425
PACES meetings are your opportunity to find out what new sustainability
initiatives are being worked on and add your thoughts and ideas about the
future of sustainability at UC. These meetings are open to the entire
university community.

The Student Sustainability Coalition meets every other Monday evening.
Meet other students who are interested in sustainability and find out how you
can get involved!
Monday, January 9: Film Series – Maquilapolis, City of
Factories, 7pm, MainStreet Cinema
This film tells the stories of Carmen and Lourdes, two workers in Tijuana’s
multi-nationally owned factories. These women encounter labor violations,
environmental devastation, and urban chaos – and actually do something about
it. Carmen organizes for labor rights, and Lourdes pressures the
government to clean up a toxic waste dump. This film is a story of hope and
the power of passionate individuals.
Wednesday, January 11: Lecture Series – Gender, Power,
& Sustainability, 2pm, 400A,B,C
Profs. Adrian Parr, Amy Lind, and Jan Fritz will discuss the intersection of
gender and sustainability and how sustainability efforts can lead to and
benefit from the empowerment of women. Come learn about this fascinating
interdisciplinary topic!
Thursday, January 19: Workshop Series – Winter Biking
Basics, 6pm, Bike Kitchen
Yes it is possible to bike year round! Join our newest Bike Mechanic, Ian
Surra, for an introduction to Winter Biking. He will cover equipment
basics and winter riding techniques. To RSVP, please email green@uc.edu.
And plan ahead to attend our big event this quarter – a
panel discussion on energy use, power sources, and the future of energy in
Ohio! February 29, 4pm in Zimmer Hall, Room 400. Panelists include
John Stowell of Duke Energy, Steve Melink of Melink Corp., and Dan Sawmiller of
the Sierra Club.
