As the first semester starts to pick up steam, so does
our events list! All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise
indicated.
1. PACES
Meeting
a.
The first PACES meeting will occur on
Monday, September 10 at 12:20pm in TUC 425.
b.
All students, faculty, staff, and
community members are invited to attend this open meeting to learn about what is
going on with UC|Sustainability and share your own
ideas.
2. Sustainability Film
Series
a.
The first film series event will take
place on Monday, September 10 at 7pm in TUC’s MainStreet
Cinema.
b.
The first film will be No Impact Man, a new
classic in the environmental movement. This film follows a family of 3 as they
try to live for a year making no net environmental impact. More info here.
3. Sustainability Lecture
Series
a.
The first lecture event will be on
Wednesday, September 12 at 4pm in TUC’s MainStreet
Cinema.
b.
This lecture, entitled Introduction to
UC|Sustainability, will feature Prof. Jodi Shann, Director of the Environmental
Studies program; Mark Schutte and Ron Gillespie, your USGA sustainability
co-directors; and Claire Sweigart, UC’s Sustainability Coordinator. They will
discuss various aspects of sustainability at UC and how you can get involved!
4. Sustainability Tour:
Cincinnati Zoo
a.
This free tour will take place on
Friday, September 14. We will meet at the Bike Kitchen at 9:30am to walk over
to the zoo together.
b.
Space is very limited. Please RSVP to
green@uc.edu. This event is for UC students, faculty, and staff
only.
5. National Student
Day
a.
On Thursday, October 4, UC will
celebrate the 2nd Annual
National Student Day to honor and promote social responsibility and volunteerism
by students.
b.
Students can enter the national
competition to win great prizes by sharing their volunteer story
here.

6. 3E
Summit
a.
The annual 3E Summit on energy, economy,
and environment will take place on Friday, October 5 from 8:30am to 4pm at
Xavier’s Cintas Center. Learn more and register
here.
b.
A free 3 hour student registration is
available (no food included). Many local businesses will be present to discuss
their sustainable projects – this is a great networking
opportunity!
c.
Volunteers are also needed before,
during, and after the event and will receive free access to the event! Email
steve.johns@cincinnati-oh.gov to find out more.
7.
Secure bicycle
parking
a.
We now have bike lockers with space for
four bicycles located outside the Wolfson Center building in DAAP. These
lockers provide secure, covered bicycle storage, with an individual lock for
each space.
b.
Each locker will be available on a first
come first served basis to currently active UC affiliates for a one time
refundable lock/key deposit of $40 and a semester rental fee of $20. Locker
renters will be given the option to renew for 2 additional semesters.
c.
If you are interested in renting a space
in a bike locker, please email Wes Munzel at munzelwc@ucmail.uc.edu.
d.
Additional lockers may be purchased in
the future if the spaces prove to be in demand.
