GLSEN Greater Cincinnati Hiring Youth Group Facilitator

One of our two current Youth Group facilitators is moving, and we're filling the open position.

The GLSEN Greater Cincinnati Youth Group meets weekly on Sundays from 3:00-5:30pm. The Youth Group is a weekly structured meeting for LGBTQ high school age students and allies who wish to come together in a fun, safe, educational and supportive environment. The commitment is approximately 6 hours per week. 3.5 hrs/week would be spent co-facilitating the Youth Group Meeting and 2.5 hrs/week planning, reporting on and supporting Youth Group activities.

Welcome the RAPP 2012-13 Leadership!

This year's selection of the formal RAPP leadership positions was the most difficult process I've been through yet.  We had twenty-three outstanding candidates for an intended ten positions.

Much gratitude is due to the folks who helped made the selections!  A team of staff and students from RAPP, SALD, Resident Education & Development, Academic Excellence & Support Services, and the LGBTQ Center carefully reviewed applications and worked together to make the final decisions.

RAPP XXVI Facilitation Team!

It's official! We now know the facilitation team for the 2010-2011 schoolyear:

Kinsey Brown
Kinsey will be working with RAPP as our Public Ally apprentice. She was an outstanding Public Ally finalist overall, and her history with RAPP didn't hurt!
Kinsey is a member of RAPP XXIII and was awarded the Terence L Jones Diversity Award for her commitment during that year. She served as a Peer Leader with the Sunday group of RAPP XXIV and was well respected by the group for her breadth of knowledge, great listening skills, and ability to challenge others supportively.

Kimmins Southard
Kimmins will be working with RAPP as an intern through the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies undergraduate program, with which they are seeking a minor. They are in their last year of studying for a bachelor of social work degree. They are also a Peer Educator at the UC Wellness Center and an active leader in GenderBloc.
Kimmins is a member of RAPP XXIII. They have been very active in RAPPORT since then - both as a RAPPORT member and as a Peer Leader with the Wednesday group of RAPP XXV. Kimmins was well respected by the group for their leadership, their ability to connect others with activities and leadership opportunities, and their ability to genuinely listen to others.


RAPP XXVI is bound to have a great year ahead! This team brings much knowledge and experience - and we're all looking forward to building a strong Peer Leader team this year!

Coming Up This Summer

Today is the last day of classes for students here on the quarter system. For many, that means they'll soon be taking a few months off of classes to work, relax, or do whatever else they do with their summer break.

In the RAPP office, it means a shift in focus rather than a break. Here are a few things we'll be focusing on this summer (which you'll get regular updates on through this blog):

• Recruiting RAPP XXVI! New to us this year is a student leadership position for recruitment. Jojo of RAPP XXIV and Brice of RAPP XXV will be working together to coordinate our recruitment efforts, including keeping our usual efforts going and innovating new means for connecting with potential RAPPers.
• Interviewing RAPP XXVI! For our second year, we'll be offering interviews over the summer. We already have one lined up for next week and hope to have a steady flow of interviews throughout the summer.
• Finding the rest of RAPP! The search for RAPPers will kick into full gear over the summer. We hope to find the names of all who have graduated RAPP and contact information for those still around. This is partly for the intrinsic benefit of knowing who we are, but also as a lead up to...
• Planning the RAPP 25 Year Reunion! The RAPP Reunion Committee has already been working on this and our "save the date" mailers will start coming out in the next few weeks. Still, there is much to do to get ready for this amazing coming together of RAPPers!
• Mini-Reunions! RAPPs XXII-XXIV have been talking about their desire to reconnect, so we're working together to plan "mini-reunions" for the summer.
• On-going community outreach! While UC groups need less of us during the summer, we'll still be offering workshops. Already scheduled are workshops with Student Orientation Leaders, Leadership Scholars, and Upward Bound at the College of Mt. St. Joseph.
• Hiring our newest facilitator! RAPP hopes to employ a Public Ally for the coming year, so we'll be working with them to find the best new facilitator we can!
• RAPPORT! At the last RAPPORT meeting of the school year, many members said they'll be around over the summer and don't want to lose the connections they've made. So, we'll be having RAPPORT meetings and hopefully community service throughout the summer.
• Lots of randomness! There will be many other random things that come up throughout the summer - hopefully you'll keep reading up here to find out what they are! :)

Final Days - RAPP Facilitator Recruitment

It's an exciting time as we come down to the wire: Applications to be a RAPP Facilitator are due on or by August 1st! We'll be interviewing the top candidates in mid-August and should announce our new facilitator for RAPP XXV by the end of the month.

Facilitator for RAPP (Racial Awareness Program)
Student Activities and Leadership Development

Qualifications:
· A bachelor degree (education, social work, family studies, sociology, or related field preferred)
· Experience working with adults or teens from diverse backgrounds
· Experience facilitating groups is preferred
· Working understanding of social justice theory and student development theory is preferred
· The ideal candidate should be inspirational, talented, able to share leadership, and committed to the program.

General Duties: Under supervision of the Program Coordinator for RAPP, the facilitator supports the functions of RAPP (Racial Awareness Program) by assisting in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.

Specific Responsibilities:

· Participate in two-day facilitation pre-service training

· Participate in promotional activities for the recruitment of members

· After appropriate training, conduct intake interviews

· Participate in the planning and evaluation of RAPP sessions

· Facilitate four three-hour meetings and one overnight retreat for each academic quarter (three quarters/year)

Time Commitment: The facilitator must be able to commit for one academic year (nine months, September-May). Work time includes pre-service training, participation in recruitment activities, twelve meetings, three over-night retreats, weekly planning meetings, and limited tasks associated with meetings/retreats.

Compensation: The facilitator is considered to be an independent contractor and is compensated in the amount of $4,000.00 for a nine-month commitment.
