Call for Participants: Dissertation on Criminalizing Stereotypes

Greetings and apologies for cross postings!

I am a Ph.D. candidate in psychology and am writing my dissertation on the experience of being viewed as suspicious, unpredictable, dangerous, or criminal in some way based on stereotypes about one's race, skin color, national origin, immigration status, religion, social class, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender presentation, or a combination of identities.  While much is known about the systemic manifestations of these stereotypes, less is known about the social and psychological consequences.

Have you ever been accused of sounding "too angry" when you spoke out in a class discussion or in a meeting? Or ever been watched closely or followed by staff in a store? Do you dread dealing with TSA? Have you ever tried to act extra nice to reassure a stranger who seemed afraid of you? Or ever hesitated to smile at a cute child for fear of being seen as a predator? If you identify with any of these feelings, experiences, or ones like them, I'd love your participation in this project.

If you are interested in participating, below is a link to a very brief anonymous survey.  It takes only about 2-5 minutes to complete. Because this topic is too nuanced for a survey, you will also be given the option of leaving your email at the end of the survey if you are interested in participating in an interview.  Expressing interest does not commit you to doing the interview, it simply means you're granting permission for me to contact you for one. You may decline at any time.

The University is considering changing the Spring Commencement to a single ceremony at Nippert Stadium.   President Ono has asked for the opinion of the Students and Faculty.

Participants Needed for Online Survey on Cross-Generational Communication - Please Complete by Apr 9th!

I am planning a presentation on cross-generation communication and work for this year’s diversity conference.  I have created a brief survey in the hopes that I can gather responses from as many students, staff members and faculty as possible.  Feel free to forward the survey to colleagues and students who may be interested in giving feedback. 

I am interested in getting information from people of all ages.  The only stipulation I have is that responders should be students, staff or faculty at a college or university.  

I would like to get responses by Sunday, April 9^th so I can begin review of the data on Monday, April 10^th.  All information received is anonymous.

One More Day of Data Collection!

Just over a week ago, the RAPP Rebranding Committee put out a survey to gather information from RAPPers current and previous on their thoughts on what a new logo would need to convey.

We've got one day left to gather info! Thank you to all of the many folks who've already completed the survey - I've taken a gander at some of the early results and you've provided a wealth of useful information.

I thought for the last push to get insight, I'd leak out some early info. So here it goes! Don't agree with what we're finding so far? TAKE THE SURVEY!

Over 1/2 of the respondents so far (23/42) are current members of RAPP - RAPP XXV.

"Challenge. Debate. Educate." is our most popular motto. "UC's Social Justice Forum" is our least.

"Socially Aware" and "Self-Awareness" are the words most commonly picked as "capturing the spirit of RAPP and RAPPORT." No one thinks "service" most captures our spirit.

RAPP Rebranding - We Need Your Feedback!

For many reasons, we're working in RAPP to develop a new logo for our future. We've had many great logos throughout the years - we're seeking another excellent logo for our 25th year and beyond!

The RAPP Rebranding committee is working hard to ensure that we get a logo that represents RAPP and RAPPORT well to the UC community and everywhere else RAPPers go. One of the keys we're looking for is for the new logo to come from our community. How will we do that this time?

We're having a contest!

To get ready for the contest, our committee is seeking feedback from RAPPers and our supporters. If you've been involved in RAPP in any way since our creation in 1986, your feedback is valuable!

The rebranding committee has created a survey and will conduct it through Wednesday, March 10th. It has five questions and should take five minutes or less to complete.

Information gathered from the survey will be used in the creation of a detailed call for submissions.
