From Cheri Westmoreland:
We are excited to be part of the Service Learning Experience to Haiti from March 17-24, 2011. This experiential learning opportunity is co-sponsored by The University of Cincinnati and the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission.
The theme for this service learning project is: Restoring Hope in Haiti. This involves serving in three areas of outreach: children’s programming providing education and sports camps, providing service in the medical clinic, and the neighbor project with a community assessment. Because of the devastation from the earthquake and the cholera outbreak, we will have the opportunity to serve in many ways to restore hope to the Haitian people. The 8-day trip will be packed with many opportunities to serve.
Would you consider being part of this service project by providing some over the counter medical supplies? The Northwest Haiti Christian Mission sponsors a medical clinic and every day the clinic usually treats over 100 patients. The Haitian doctors and nurses write prescriptions, but without medicine in the pharmacy those prescriptions are nothing more than a useless slip of paper reminding them that they are in need. For many the medicine written on the prescription is critical.
Even the most common everyday over the counter medications are lifesaving in Haiti. Something as simple as children’s Tylenol can be the difference between life and death. An inexpensive tube of triple antibiotic ointment for skin sores could help prevent a life threatening skin infection. Below is a list of over the counter medicines that we seek gift in-kind contributions:
Tylenol (children’s chewable and liquid)
Ibuprofen (children’s chewable and liquid)
Antacids (Tums, Zantac)
Vitamins (prenatal, children’s, adult)
Or any other medical supply that you would be willing to donate.
For preparation purpose, we would like to have all donations in hand by Friday, March 11, 2011. We would be happy to arrange a pick-up or they can be brought to:
