From UC Undergraduate Student Government:
On Thursday May 3rd
at 11:00 AM in the 300 level of University Pavilion, United States Senator
Sherrod Brown will be speaking about legislation he introduced yesterday
intended to prevent interest rates from increasing on Federal Student Loans.
Rates are currently set to double from 3.4% to 6.8% on July 1st, which would
force 7.4 million American students to pay thousands of dollars more each year
in interest.
I encourage everyone who is even slightly interested in student affairs and
legislation to attend the rally. Senator Brown is a fantastic public speaker
and this issue directly impacts one of UC's main goals as a public institution,
providing an affordable and attainable college education for all.
The senator as well as myself would love to see a
large number of students there to impress to the media how important the issue
of college affordability is to students across the nation and also to show how
engaged and passionate our UC students are. I personally believe that this is
both a great opportunity and an important responsibility for student government
members to serve as the voice of students.
-Cody Clark
Senator Emeritus
